Due to an upcoming retirement, we are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team.

Accounting Manager Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager will plan and direct the accounting activities of the department by timely closing the books of the Bank each month; provide Board, Management and Regulatory reports that are timely, and error-free; and otherwise support the CFO in the performance of his/her duties.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for general ledger activity and accounts payable
• Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts quarterly performance evaluations.
• Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
• Manage and facilitate internal and financial audits

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions
• Monitors general ledger activity
• Oversees accounts payable
• Reviews balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepares Board report financials for CFO review and sign-off
• Manages bond portfolio accounting – payments, accruals, purchases, sales
• Manages fixed asset accounting
• Calculates regulatory capital estimates
• Prepares major and reviews minor closing entries
• Monitors and updates financial reporting due dates calendar
• Prepares and remits Iowa sales/use tax
• Coordinates Call report work paper preparation/review and data input for CFO sign-off
• Monitors FDIC insurance & OCC assessments
• Reviews and sign-offs on FHLB Qualified Collateral Report
• Prepares income tax estimated payment calculations
• Processes peer bank reviews & comparisons
• Monitors, processes and reports pledged investments monitored
• Tests private label bond impairment & reviews regulatory classification
• Files annual corporate tax return.
• Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
• Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and prepare and file franchise tax returns Sterling Federal Insurance Services Corp
• Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent management and supervisory skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.with emphasis in Excel
• Thorough knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping principles, theories, and controls

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• Six to eight years or more of related experience required.
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Global Management Accountant designation a plus
